What is the Instructor Development Course (I.D.C)?
The Ancient Historical Society “AHS" uses the expertise of Historical Lecture professionals to deliver course material owned by The AHS. To ensure the highest quality standards for professional development, The AHS has developed a course to “train the trainer” in the accepted style of presentation for our seminar programs. This will allow us to determine who would complete the volunteer instructor staff for the seminar program. The course runs for 3 days and is lead by members of The AHS’s Ministry Of Cultural Affairs Department. The department schedules this course at a minimum of three times a year.
How does one get involved in this program?
Ideal volunteer leaders come from many sources including current staff members, AHS committee members, current volunteer leaders, or through an interest expressed by an AHS member. A prerequisite for becoming a volunteer instructor is membership in The AHS. The AHS instructor must remain an AHS member as long as they are teaching for the AHS. It is considerably favorable for a person with professional designations such as Certified Educational Teacher.
If you would like to be considered for a Ancient Historical Society Lecturer position, please contact the Instructor Coordinator, as indicated at the bottom of this message, and include a letter of interest along with your CV/Biographical history. The Ministry Of Cultural Affairs Department maintains a database of prospective candidates and approximately 2 to 3 months before the next L.D.C. seminar a telephone interview is conducted. Then after The AHS sends an invitation to the seminar based on the results of this interview. The invitation provides deadlines for registration in an upcoming L.D.C. Seminar Program. Individuals who are unable to attend receive future invitations if they continue to express interest in upcoming Seminar Programs.
What expenses are associated with attending L.D.C?
The L.D.C course is tuition-free yet you will be responsible for the materials and must be a AHS member. In addition, attendees are responsible for paying their own travel, room and board costs. We will provide light snacks and lunch for the three seminar days. The AHS does not negotiate a special price for attendees with a local hotel.
